Paris-Nice 2024: The Route

Paris-Nice 2024The 2024 edition of Paris-Nice started on Sunday 3 March and finished on Sunday the 10th. As always, the Race to the Sun suited all tastes: sprinters, breakaway specialists and climbers, while the time trial was for teams.

The 1st stage is a lumpy race with start and finish in Les Mureaux. A 2.3 kilometres climb at 5.1% inside the last 13 kilometres should shake things up in the finale.

A bunch sprint in stage 1 is a possible outcome, in stage 2 it’s a certainty. Unless echelons blow the race apart. The route is as good as flat.

Stage 3 is a 32.2 kilometres long TTT on undulating terrain with two minor climbs standing out. Teams receive the time of the first rider across the line, while individual riders will be given their individual finishing times.

The 4th stage is bound to bring spectacle. The race to the Beaujolais region takes in seven climbs. The last of which is a 3 kilometres drag at 7.7% with its final kilometre at 9.3%.

Either sprinters or attackers are expected to celebrate at the end of stage 5. It’s a lumpy race with a virtually flat finale.

The longest stage of Paris-Nice adds up to 198.2 kilometres. Stage 6 is played out on hilly race terrain, although the finale is on descent before the last kilometre kicks up at 4%.

The Queen Stage is a mountainous test between Nice and the summit of the Madone d’Utelle, which is a 15.3 kilometres long climb with a average gradient of 5.7%. The last 300 metres rise at 10.9% to the line.

At 109.3 kilometres and featuring six climbs, the final stage of Paris-Nice is expected to detonate the fireworks. The Col des Quatre Chemins – 3.6 kilometres at 8.8% – is the last ascent before the riders fly down a 9 kilometres descent to the Promenade des Anglais in Nice.
