Race report
Rémi Cavagna and Matteo Trentin break clear after 13 kilometres of hard racing. The gap remains small for 20 kilometres before Trentin sits up. Cavagna is caught a little later.
The next attempt is by Casper Pedersen, Ben Swift, Mads Pedersen and KOM leader Anthony Perez, but while climbing the Côte de Tuilières Victor Campenaerts, Kenny Elissonde, Alexey Lutsenko, Jonathan Hivert and Julien El Fares bridge across. The two Pedersens and Swift drop back into the peloton before Perez cements his KOM lead at the top.
Perez is also the first rider over the Côte de Mont Méaulx, Côte de Cabris and Col du Ferrier. The leaders reach their maximum lead at the summit of the Ferrier – 4 minutes -, while Brandon McNulty – third on GC – crashes out of the race on the Cabris climb.
Elissonde heads out alone with 21 kilometres remaining before Jonas Rutsch rejoins him in the last 14 kilometres.
Rutsch goes alone in the hilly zone of the finale, but the peloton takes him back with 1.3 kilometres remaining.
GC leader Roglic opens the sprint and finishes it off in style. Laporte and Matthews finish in second and third.
