Race report
Filip Maciejuk, Luca Vergallito, Philippe Jacob and Félix Bouchard break away right from the start. The quartet builds up a lead of over six minutes.
Around halfway through the race, the gap begins to come down. Jacob is the first breakaway rider to lose contact at the front.
A five-man chase group forms, featuring Nils Politt, Laurence Pithie, Xandro Meurisse, Bastien Tronchon and Julian Alaphilippe, and they put 1 minute into the peloton.
Pithie and Politt are dropped, but Meurisse, Alaphilippe and Tronchon are joined by Pavel Sivakov, Mattias Skjelmose, Artem Shmidt, Quinten Hermans, Matej Mohorič, Alberto Bettiol and Anthon Charmig. Together, they bridge across to the breakaway, by which time Bouchard has already been dropped.
In the final lap, Alaphilippe is still out front along with Sivakov, Skjelmose, Hermans, Mohoric, Bettiol and Charmig. By that point, the chasing group is down to just Tadej Pogacar, Brandon McNulty, Axel Laurance, Xandro Meurisse, Edoardo Zambanini, Paul Lapeira, Neilson Powless, Biniam Girmay and Jonas Abrahamsen.
The chasers are reeled in before the Côte de la Montagne. Bettiol, Sivakov and Alaphilippe then break clear, and on the climb, Alaphilippe launches his winning move. He holds off the other two and crosses the line first.
