Originally, the finish would have been at the Passo Gavia, but the roads to the pass at 2,621 metres are closed due to landslides.
The stage route is unchanged until Bormio. So the riders tackle the climb to Teglio early on. The Giro Rosa moves through the village after 18 kilometres before descending back to the valley of the Adda. Following the river upstream until Bormio, the riders are continuously climbing false flat. Gradients of approximately 2%, but tiresome nevertheless.
Instead of turning right in Bormio to tackle the Gavia, the route follows the road to the Stelvio for a few kilometres. At the first hairpin to the right the new route goes straight ahead towards Molina and Turri Piano. The riders leave the main road and continue to the hairpin-filled Torri di Fraele to finish the ascent at the Cancano dam.
