Race report
After a short-lived breakaway attempt by Lara Vieceli and Franziska Brausse the peloton is still bunched when the climbing starts.
The first proper gaps are opened on the Colle del Barbotto. Some 20 riders attack before Annemiek van Vleuten, Marta Cavalli and Mavi García leave the others behind. The trio is 3 minutes adrift at the foot of the last (non-classified) climb of the day.
Van Vleuten strikes as soon as the road goes up, while García takes over. The two push on together to leave Cavalli behind.
García puts pressure on Van Vleuten in the last kilometres before the Dutch powerhouse counters with 500 metres to go. She wins the race with a comfortable margin and takes the pink jersey while she is at it. García moves up to second place, Cavalli to third.
