Key points: flat early on, hilly finale

The riders set off from Porcari, just north of Pisa, and head to the Tyrrhenian coast to follow it all the way to La Spezia. The route isn’t completely flat, but the undulations are negligible.

That changes with a few short climbs in the run-up to the first KOM climb, the Passo del Termine. First comes the ascent at La Foce – 2.6 kilometres at 6.8% – followed by the climb to Pignone, 2 kilometres averaging 7.2%. The Passo del Termine itself adds another 7 kilometres at 5.1%, marking the start of the hilly finale.

The descent from the Termine leads straight onto the Colle di Guaitarola, 9.7 kilometres at 6.3%. Only around 5 kilometres after the mountain sprint does the descent to the coastal town of Sestri Levante begin. The shortest route from there is just 14 kilometres flat to the line, but to spice up the finale, the riders face one last inland loop, starting with 4.6 kilometres at 6.4% up to San Bartolomeo. A 5-kilometre descent then brings them to the final 4 kilometres on the flat.

Chiavari sits on the Gulf of Tigullio, 40 kilometres south of Genoa.
