Giro 2022 Route stage 8: Naples - Naples

Giro d'Italia 2022Saturday 14 May - The 8th stage of the Giro d'Italia is a criterium race in and around Napels. The lumpy route is 153 kilometres long.

The Giro did not return to the third largest cirty of Italy since the Grande Partenza of 2013. Back then, the 1st stage was a criterium race and Mark Cavendish turned out on top. The ManX Missile outgunned Elia Viviani and Nacer Bouhanni on the line.

This year’s Napels stage will also feature a criterium, although the route is much hillier than in 2013. Each lap features the Monte di Procida and the Lucrine Lake climb on the Phlegraean Peninsula to the west of Napels.

The 19 kilometres circuit is preceded by a loop towards Lago di Patria. The riders enter the lumpy round after approximately 50 kilometres and it will be completed four times before the riders go back to Naples.

A climb of 3.4 kilometres is crested on the Discesa Coroglio with 7 kilometres to go. The riders descend to the waterfront to finish on the seaside promenade Via Fransesco Caracciolo.
