World Cycling Championships 2017 Bergen, Norway: Favourites TTT – women

The women's team time trial at the Worlds in Bergen takes place on a hilly course of 42.5 kilometres. The toughest task is a 1.4 kilometres climb at 7.2%. Cyclingstage.com investigates the major contenders for the TTT World title.

Since 2012 the women's team time trial at the World Cycling Championships is contested by trade teams. Canyon-SRAM took the win in the first four editions (a few times under its former name Specialized-lululemon), while Boels Dolmans powered to glory in 2016. The podium was rounded out by Canyon-SRAM, at 0’48”, and Cervélo-Bigla, at 1’56”.

Boels Dolman is favourite to win in 2017, too. Evelyn Stevens (retired) and Ellen Van Dijk (now Sunweb) are no longer under contract, but Anna van der Breggen and Amy Pieters are now riding in the colours of the Dutch team. Last year's World Champions Chantal Blaak, Karol-Ann Canuel, Elizabeth Deignan-Armitstead and Christine Majerus are still with Boels Dolman.

Yearly, the most important team time trial for women takes place in Vårgårda, Sweden. On a route that was similar to the TTT route at the Worlds in Bergen, Boels Dolmans won the race 13 seconds ahead of Cervélo Bigla and 51 seconds ahead of Canyon SRAM Racing.
