Vuelta 2026 Favourites stage 15: Rollings roads towards sprint finish

Although the route has been shortened, the heat will undoubtedly play a part. After the start in Palma del Río, the riders tackle the rolling roads of central Andalusia, passing plenty of olive groves and sun-scorched yellow fields along the way.

The Vuelta also visited Córdoba two years ago. On that occasion, the pre-finale featured a similar climb - slightly longer, but with the same gradient — and Van Aert won the sprint from a reduced peloton. Three years earlier, Cort had taken the honours in similar fashion. So, on both occasions, it was a fast finisher capable of surviving a climb who came out on top.

That is also the most likely scenario this time around. Doubtlees, there will be riders looking to make the difference on the Puerto Artafi, but the climb is probably not tough enough to allow them to stay away. And even if they do manage to get clear, there is still plenty of road left to bring them back.

After the Artafi, the route continues for 9 rolling kilometres on a plateau before a 7-kilometre plunge leads into the final 8 kilometres on flat roads.
