A crash in the second stage saw Sergio Geovani Chumil become the first rider to leave the Vuelta. The Guatemalan abandoned the race with concussion. Cian Uijtdebroeks, who had started the race with ambitions of challenging for the overall classification, also crashed in the 2nd stage, sustaining an ankle injury that eventually forced him to withdraw before stage 5.

Stage 8 would have been a forgettable affair, had race leader and three-time stage winner Tadej Pogacar not hit the tarmac so hard that he was forced to abandon.

After a crash in the rain-soaked 2nd stage, Guillaume Martin became the first rider to abandon the 2025 Vuelta. In total, 31 riders failed to finish the race.
