Vuelta 2023 Route stage 16: Liencres - Bejes

Vuelta a España 2023Tuesday 12 September - Short. Explosive. Punchy finish. That's the 16th stage in a nutshell. The race between Liencres Playa and Bejes in northern Spain is just 120.1 kilometres long and takes in an elevation gain of over 2,000 metres.

Both Liencres Playa and Bejes never before hosted a stage on La Vuelta. Starting venue Liencres is situated west of Santander, close to the Cantabrian Sea. The route in the first 100 kilometres never strays far from the coast.

The riders turn inland just after entering Asturias. The terrain doesn’t change at first though. Lumpy roads lead the way to a promising finale.

The climb to the line begins in La Hermida. The ascent is 4.8 kilometres long and averaging 8.8%. The third kilometre is relatively easy, the rest of the climb is mostly double digit material.

The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprint comes with 6, 4 and 2 seconds.

Thanks for this useful information. We have been hiking the Camino de Santiago ( Norte) and will be in Sanander tomorrow so look forward to being able to catch a bus to Liencres Playa to see our dear friend from Durango, CO ( where we live) Seppy Kuss continue his successful Vuelta!
