Race report
James Fouché and Abram Stockman attack from the gun, while Hartthijs de Vries bridges across in a 10 kilometres chase. The three are reeled in on Winchcombe Hill and Ben Turner and Mark Donovan are the next attackers. The two open up a comfortable lead before the sit up to wait for the chasers Ryan Christensen, Liam Johnston and Abram Stockman. The five enjoy a maximum lead of over 3 minutes.
Van Aert jumps to the lead group with 12 kilometres remaining. He keeps on pushing with Turner and Donovan in his wheel. Stephen Williams rejoins the three.
Van Aerts kick again in the last 4 kilometres. He opens a gap, but the chasers bring him back inside the last 800 metres. Tiller sprints to victory, while Van Aert keeps the leader’s jersey.
