Are we in Dubai? Denmark? The Netherlands? The pack will not climb at all today. Yes, that’s unusual in Spain. Only sign we are not in Denmark of The Netherlands after all is the relentless sun.

At an elevation of 70 metres the highest point of the route is arrival place Alcala de Guadaira. Not exactly a mountain village, albeit the final stretch is a false flat upwards, to be precise: the last 750 metres are at 4%. So that's the kind of arrival riders like John Degenkolb and Michael Matthews are in love with.
