UAE Tour 2022 Route stage 5: Ras al Khaimah Corniche – Al Marjan Island
Ras al Khaimah is the capital of the emirate with the same name. According to UAE standards it’s a fertile place. More rainfall than in the surrounding emirates and underground water streams from the mountains of Oman account for more green areas. Jebel Jais – mountain top finish of stage 4 – lies in the northermost part of the emirate, close to the border with Oman.
The route in itself is not very remarkable - flat -, but the finale is. The finish is located at the end of an extended gentle curve to the right on Al Marjan Island. So the riders see the actual line very late.
Last year, Sam Bennett sprinted to victory on Al Marjan Island, besting young David Dekker and Caleb Ewan.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprints come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds.
