Tour of the Basque Country 2026 Route stage 6: Antzuola - Bergara
First published on 2 April 2026
It’s been a while since the Tour of the Basque Country last finished in Bergara. In 2004, Alejandro Valverde won a stage that both started and finished in the town near the Cantabrian coast. The start town, Antzuola, lies a few kilometres further west, so they are practically neighbours.
The riders begin with a southern loop that opens with the Asentzio, a climb of 5.4 kilometres at 6.7%. After passing the finish line for the first time at kilometre 27, a northern loop follows, which opens with the Elosua climb: 7.2 kilometres at 7.5%. Hardly back in the valley, the next obstacle comes in the form of the Azkarate, 3.1 kilometres long with an average gradient of 6.3%.
After the descent, the road rises on a false flat back to the finish, after which the exact same loop is tackled again, featuring the Elosua and Azkarate.
At the penultimate passage of the finish line, the riders take on a smaller loop south of the start and finish town. It's 19 kilometres long and begins with a false flat section that soon turns into the second ascent of the Asentzio. The first climb of the day is now taken from another side, measuring 7.2 kilometres at 5.2%, though the second half is by far the steepest. The final kilometre even ramps up to almost 10%.
Once over the top of the Asentzio, the riders plunge into a 9.2-kilometre descent to the finish.
The first three riders across the line gain 10, 6, and 4 bonus seconds, while the intermediate sprints offer 6, 4, and 2 seconds.
