Tour of Oman 2015 stage 4 Friday, February 20, 2015 – Stage 4 is the Queen Stage in the Tour of Oman, leading the riders in 189 kilometres from the Grande Mosque Sultan Qaboos to Jabal Al Akhdar a.k.a. Green Mountain. Since 2011, the top-finish is in the Tour of Oman and often decisive.

This is a copy of last year’s Queen Stage, only longer. Passing through BidBid, departure-place in 2014, the riders are already 41.5 kilometres in the saddle. They race further south and head for the Hajar Mountains. Exactly two weeks, the mountain range saw a top-finish in stage of the Dubai Tour, albeit on the other end of the ‘Hajar-spectrum’. The range stretches along the northern coast of Oman alle the way to the United Arab Emirates.

As of 2011 Jabal Al Akhdhar/Green Mountain is in the Tour of Oman and saw wins by top-climbers like Robert Gesink, Vincenzo Nibali, Joaquim Rodríguez and Chris Froome.

The base of Jabal Al Akhdhar is at an elevation 635 metres and then it’s ‘only’ 5.7 kilometres left to race. But those are the toughest in Gulf-region, period! The opening 300 metres go up by a 20% grade and the total climb averages 10.6%. To complicate matters the two closing kilometres equal an average gradient of 13.5%.

The finish is expected around 15:30 local time.
