Tour of Lombardy 2025: Favourites

At the last Bergamo finish – two years ago – Pogacar made the decisive move early on the descent from the Passo di Ganda. With 9.2 kilometres at 7.3% and the summit coming 21.4 kilometres from the finish, it was the final major climb of the day. Pogacar then soloed to his fourth consecutive Il Lombardia victory.

It would be a surprise if this year’s race plays out any differently. Not only has Pogacar won the last two editions of Il Lombardia with solo attacks (the two years before that, he outgunned Enric Mas and Fausto Masnada in two-up sprints), but he’s also claimed every race he’s entered over the past two weeks with long range solo moves. Back-to-back, he wrapped up the World Championships road race, European Championships road race, and Tre Valli Varesine.

There is only one other former winner lining up in Como: Bauke Mollema. The Dutchman won Il Lombardia in 2019.
