Sunday 13 May sees the start of the 13th edition of the Tour of California, while the race is set to finish on Saturday 19 May, 2018. Traditionally, the eight-day stage race runs from north to south of the west coast state, although this year the riders travel in opposite direction. The 2018 race will feature a well balanced combination of racing time trials, climbing, and sprinting. The Tour of California is perfectly suited for riders who are preparing for the Tour de France. In Europe the Giro d’Italia takes place at the same time, but the sheer duration of that race makes it a tricky target for those with eyes on La Grande Boucle. (Slideshow route/profile)

George Bennett won the overall in 2017, while Rafal Majka and Andrew Talansky rounded out the podium.
