Race report
It takes 25 kilometres before a big breakaway takes shape. Daniel Oss, Bert-Jan Lindeman, Antwan Tolhoek, Rui Costa, Alexander Kristoff, Matteo Trentin, Luis Mas, Robert Stannard, Nikias Arndt, Kevin Geniets, Matej Mohoric, Jasper Stuyven, François Bidard, Aurélien Paret-Peintre, Thomas Scully, Stan Dewulf, Tosh Van der Sande, Patrick Bevin, Nathan Haas, Benjamin King, Pim Ligthart, Colin Joyce, Gian Friesecke, Claudio Imhof and Simon Pellaud race to a lead of 4 minutes.
The lead group tackles the Flumserberg to 2 minutes ahead of the peloton. Tolhoek heads out alone before Mas and Bevin bridge across. The Dutchman drops them in the last 3 kilometres, while Egan Bernal attacks in de GC group. He gobbles up the remnants of the early break and heads for the front of the race.
Yet, Tolhoek remains out of reach and wins the race 17 seconds ahead of the unleashed Colombian, who catapults into the GC lead.
