Race report
Attacks are flying from the gun, but it takes more than 50 kilometres for the breakaway to establish itself. Mads Pedersen, Tiesj Benoot, Julian Alaphilippe, Victor Campenaerts, Nils Politt, Georg Zimmermann, Warren Barguil, Jack Haig and Matteo Trentin open up a lead of more than 1 minute. The peloton keeps chasing.

Politt breaks his chain and loses contact in the lead group, but he rejoins the attackers in last 65 kilometres with 27 other riders. Among them Jasper Philipsen, Mathieu van der Poel, Tom Pidcock, Christophe Laporte, Dylan Groenewegen, Matej Mohoric, Alberto Bettiol, Kasper Asgreen, Ben O’Connor, Victor Campenaerts and Simon Clarke.

The latter two push on together and open up a lead of almost 1 minute. Clarke cramps in the run-up to the Côte d’Ivory and he drops back. Asgreen, O’Connor and Mohoric go after the lone leader to gobble him up. The three reach the summit 15 seconds ahead of the chasers.

The gap goes out to 30 seconds. The chasers bring it back to 15 seconds before it doubles up again.

O’Connor opens the sprint early and Asgreen closes down the gap with Mohoric. The Slovene pips the Dane for the win in a photofinish sprint.

The peloton comes home more than 13 minutes later and Jonas Vingegaard stays in yellow.
