Tour de France 2017 Favourites stage 21: Fast fiesta on Champs-Elysees
Obviously, the finish of the Tour de France is on the Champs-Elysees in Paris. The first half of the last stage is a parade with champagne and on occasional cigar, while three weeks of racing eventually boil down to a thrilling criterium on the cobbles and an ensuing bunch sprint. At 103 kilometres, the 21st stage of the Tour de France travels from Montgeron to Paris. Winning this one is the holy grail for every fast finisher.
André Greipel sprinted to Champs-Elysees glory in 2016 and 2015, Marcel Kittel in 2014 and 2013, while Mark Cavendish ruled in the years before that. His hegemony lasted four years, but as he crashed out in stage 4 there will not be another victory in 2017.
This Tour de France saw six finishes for pure sprinters. Marcel Kittel took five victories and Arnaud Démare one. Yet, both are no longer competing. Kittel abandoned after a crash, while Démare finished out of time.
