Tour of the Alps 2026: Sprint triumph Pidcock, Pellizzari still leader

Race report

The opening phase is disrupted by a major crash. Several riders, including Lorenzo Finn, are forced to abandon, and the peloton heads in a compact formation towards the first climb, the Hofmahdjoch.

As soon as the road goes uphill, a group of eight riders breaks away. Sam Oomen, Gijs Leemreize, Peter Øxenberg, Florian Stork, Sean Quinn, Finlay Pickering, Alessandro Tonelli and Nicolo Garibbo open a small gap, but they are caught. Oomen isn’t discouraged and goes again just before the summit, this time with Darren Rafferty. The two open up a maximum lead of more than 2 minutes.

Inside the final 4 kilometres, the peloton reels the two back in, after which Tom Pidcock sprints to a commanding victory. Egan Bernal finishes third and moves up to third place in the general classification, while Giulio Pellizzari retains the race lead.
