Tirreno-Adriatico 2024 Route stage 3: Volterra - Gualdo Tadino
Wednesday 6 March - The longest stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico adds up to 225 kilometres. The terrain is undulating, sometimes hilly, while the home straight goes up at roughly 4%.
The first hour of action takes place in the hills to the west of Siena. The riders then move through the Strade Bianche hub and continue further east.
The route flattens out after 95 kilometres in the saddle and the following 100 kilometres are predominantly flat. The climb to Casacastalda then throws in 3 kilometres at 7%. The village is situated 16 kilometres before the finish line.
A short descent leads onto an extended false flat all the way to Gualdo Tadino. A sharp turn takes the riders into the final kilometre, which rises at approximately 4%.
Three years ago, the Tirreno-Adriatico also finished in Gualdo Tadino. Mathieu van der Poel took the win, outsprinting Wout van Aert and Davide Ballerini.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprint comes with 3, 2 and 1 seconds.
