Race report
Daniel Oss, Edoardo Zardini, Nathan Van Hooydonck, Tom Van Asbroeck, Tosh Van Der Sande, Nico Denz, Ivan Rovny, Mads Pedersen, Jorge Arcas and Davide Gabburo open up a gap, while Steve Morabito, Julien Simon and Giovanni Visconti rejoin them after a long chase. The thirteen carve out a maximum gap of more than 8 minutes.
With two local laps left the front group is down to Pedersen, Denz, Gabburo and Zardini.
The GC group accelerates inside the last 30 kilometres and Jakob Fuglsang attacks on the penultimate haul up on the wall-like climb to the line. He rejoins Pedersen and Gabburo shortly after the penultimate passage on the line. Denz also regains contact.
Fugsang goes alone, while Yates strikes on a climb with 11 kilometres remaining. He drops Roglic, but the Slovenian makes it back to Yates’ wheel.
On the last climb Yates strikes again to leave Roglic behind. While Fuglsang solos to victory the race leader expands his bonus over the runner-up with 16 seconds. Fuglsang moves up to third place, 35 seconds down on the lead jersey.
