Ruta del Sol 2024

The 70th edition was won by Maxim van Gils, while Juan Ayuso and Antonio Tiberi flanked him on the podium. It was an atypical edition of the Andalucian stage race, as it was reduced to an ITT of 5 kilometres - all other stages were cancelled. The race took place on Friday 16 February 2024.

Van Gils wins ITT and GC

Maxim Van Gils wins the extremely shortened Ruta del Sol. The Belgian rider turns out on top in the 5 kilometres ITT, which is the only race after the cancellation of four other stages. Juan Ayuso and Antonio Tiberi round out the podium.

Alcaudete - Alcaudete

Friday 16 February - Following two cancelled stages, the Ruta del Sol kicks off with an idividual time trial in Alcaudete. The 5 kilometres route climbs almost from start to finish, albeit at shallow gradients, while the last 500 metres rise on a on a narrow and cobbled road towards Alcaudete Castle.

The Route

As always, the Ruta del Sol - aka the Vuelta a Andalucía - presented a mountainous route in 2024. But the race was cut to the bone after farmers protests. Only an ITT of 5 kilometres remained.
