Tirreno-Adriatico 2026: Valgren wins from break, Del Toro regains GC lead.
fotobureau Cor VosOn the steep climb to the Beato Sante sanctuary, Michael Valgren is the only survivor of the break of the day. He keeps Isaac del Toro and Matteo Jorgenson at bay and solos to victory. Del Toro, who finishes second, can take consolation in retaining the leader’s jersey.

Race report
In an exciting opening phase, the break finally forms after roughly 30 kilometres when Edward Planckaert goes clear. Jack Haig, Joan Bou and Sjoerd Bax quickly bridge across to him, while Michael Valgren, Julian Alaphilippe and Georg Zimmermann take a little longer. Emiel Verstrynge is the last rider to track down the seven, as Martin Marcellusi and Ethan Hayter are unable to make the junction.
The attackers gain over 5 minutes on the peloton, but by the first climb to the Beato Sante sanctuary the gap has dropped to just over two minutes. At the top, only Alaphilippe and Valgren remain out front.
Valgren heads out on his own just after entering the Beato Sante climb for the second time, while the GC group is just 1 minute behind. Giulio Pellizzari loses contact, but the GC leader makes it back, only to be dropped again when the road ramps up again. Matteo Jorgenson is the only rider able to follow the Mexican.
Meanwhile, Valgren grinds stoically on to his first big win in eight years. In the sprint for second place, Del Toro is comfortably faster than Jorgenson. Pellizzari finishes 19 seconds later, so Del Toro reclaims the overall lead.
