Race report
Jonathan Milan attacks as soon as the flag drops. KOM leader Diego Pablo Sevilla, Jardi Christiaan van der Lee en Tim Naberman go with him straight away, while Nickolas Zukowsky joins 2 kilometres later. The quartet opens up a 6-minute gap.
As the roads begin to rise, Jonathan Milan drops back from the front, while Naberman has to let the other three go with 24 kilometres remaining. They start the Blockhaus 3 minutes ahead of the peloton, and Nickolas Zukowsky attacks immediately. Van der Lee regains contact just after the bonification sprint.
Igor Arrieta, second on GC, is dropped from the peloton inside the final 9 kilometres. Egan Bernal and Enric Mas are the first GC contenders to lose contact. With 5.7 kilometres to the summit, pink jersey holder Afonso Eulálio also cracks.
Jonas Vingegaard strikes 200 metres later and Giulio Pellizzari is the only rider able to follow. Just over 1 kilometre later, the Italian loses contact before being overhauled by Felix Gall.
Gall edges closer to Vingegaard in the final kilometres, but without making the catch. The Dane crosses the line with a 15-second lead, while Eulálio comes home almost 3 minutes later. The Portuguese had enough of a buffer to keep the pink jersey. Jonas Vingegaard is now second at more than 3 minutes, and Gall moves up to third place.
