Race report
Stefan Bissegger and Sébastien Grignard go clear in the run-up to the Côte de Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. The peloton keeps up the chase, and their move comes to an end on the climb. Later, Joshua Tarling, Igor Arrieta, Steff Cras and Arthur Kluckers also try their luck, and they open up a lead of more than 2 minutes.
On the Côte de l’Aire Deï Masco, the lead is down to 1 minute and a half as Søren Kragh Andersen begins the pursuit. The Danish champion crests the summit half a minute behind the attackers.
After Cras loses contact at the front, he sees Kragh Andersen appear alongside him. The two are soon swept back into the peloton.
Kluckers also falls behind on the Côte de Saignon, and while Biniam Girmay struggles in the peloton, Tarling and Arrieta are reeled in 500 metres from the top. Lenny Martinez then attempts to escape, but without success. Valentin Paret-Peintre’s attempt also fails, but Harold Tejada manages to get clear.
The Colombian holds firm in the final 5 kilometres and takes the victory. Jonas Vingegaard crosses the line 6 seconds later in the main group to retain the yellow jersey.
