Last year, the Dutchman not only won two stages, he also took home the maglia azzurra – or, blue jersey – ahead of Giulio Ciccone and Alessandro Covi.

You can follow the fight for the blue jersey from Friday 6 May, when the first KOM points are awarded on the ITT’s finish climb in Ortona.

The distribution of points in the KOM competition of the Giro d’Italia is as follows:

Cima Coppi: 50 – 30 – 20 – 14 – 10 – 6 – 4 – 2 – 1
1st category: 40 – 18 – 12 – 9 – 6 – 4 – 2 – 1
2nd category: 18 – 8 – 6 – 4 – 2 – 1
3rd category: 9 – 4 – 2 – 1
4th category: 3 – 2 – 1

The Cima Coppi is awarded on the highest point in the entire route. Which will be the Colle del Gran San Bernardo in stage 13.
