Brabantse Pijl 2025: Evenepoel outguns Van Aert in sprint-à-deux

Race report
Tuur Dens, Jens Reynders, Joren Bloem, Ådne Holter, Antonio Jesús Soto and Iúri Leitão open up a gap on the Alsemberg. Sébastien Grignard and Alexys Brunel set off in pursuit. Grignard drops his companion and continues the chase, but he doesn’t get any closer. Eventually, he throws in the towel, and the six open up a maximum gap of 2 minutes.

After the first ascent of the Moskesstraat, the breakaway is caught by a group of favourites. A sharp acceleration from Remco Evenepoel cuts the group down to around twenty riders. The Olympic champion kicks again on the Holstheide climb, and only Wout van Aert can follow. Joe Blackmore joins them shortly after.

Behind them, the chasers regroup, and by the time the race hits the finish line for the second time, the three leaders have opened up a 50-second gap. The following lap sees the gap reduced by 20 seconds, but it doesn’t come down any further.

On the Hertstraat, Blackmore drops off under the scorching pace set by Evenepoel. Throughout the rest of the final lap, the Olympic champion does nearly all the work at the front, including in the final kilometres. He then launches the sprint to beat Van Aert.
