World Cycling Championships 2024: Route ITT – women

World Championships TTSunday 22 September - The women’s individual time trial is a 29.9 kilometres test with an elevation gain of 327 metres. The lumpy part begins after 8 kilometres and lasts 9 kilometrss, while the rest of the route is flat.

The start podium is situated in Gossau, just south of Uster where the women’s road race will start in six days. The riders reach Mönchaltorf 3 kilometres later and that’s where the womens’and men’s ITT routes come together. So, the course has a similar profile to that of the men’s course, but it’s more dense.

After Mönchaltorf the riders race to Oetwil am See and that’s where the hilly part of the route begins. Starting out between the trees and continuing onto a plateau with fields left and right, a winding climb goes up for 2.6 kilometres at 4.5%. A fast descent takes the riders passed Uetikon and, while Lake Zurich is beckoning in the valley, there is one incline remaining. It’s a 1.4 kilometer test at 5.1%.

Very gradually the route goes downhill until a proper descent of a little over 1 kilometre takes the riders down to Lake Zurich. They follow the shores all the way to the finish line, a section which is 12 kilometres long, pan flat, and dead straight.
