World Cycling Championships 2014 Ponferrada: Sprint victory 22-yo Ferrand Prévot
The women are to take the 18.2 kilometres WK-circuit seven times, and only 4 kilometres are completely flat. The race explodes in the final 5 kilometres with Johansson, Vos, Longo Borghini and Armitstead attacking at the closing climb, but eventually a group of ten chasers brings them back. The sprint finish is that close a photo finish is needed to decide on the 2015 World Champion. 22-Year old Pauline Ferrand Prévot from France is in the rainbow jersey coming year, Lisa Brennauer takes silver, whilst Emma Johansson wins the bronze medal. Race report
A crash at 95 kilometres diminishes the pack, but all favourites are stil on board. The race opens up in the penultimate lap with Alison Powers attacking. Rachel Neylan takes over, but she´s brought back when the bell rings for the last lap.
Blaak, Ratto, Neylan and two others attack, but the Dutch squads brings them back. Despite several attacks no rider is able to break free.
At the closing climb Emma Johansson intiates an ultimate attack with Vos, Longo Borghini and Armitstead closing in. A chasing group of ten brings them back in the final kilometre and Pauline Ferrand Prévot takes the world title on the line.
