Vuelta 2020: Roglic wins in Suances to move into race lead

The 10th stage runs along the Cantabrian coast to a punchy sprint finish in Suances. Primoz Roglic outguns Felix Großschartner and Andrea Bagioli to move into the red jersey on the same time as Richard Carapaz. (Slideshow route/profile)

Race report
Brent Van Moer, Pim Ligthart, Alexander Molenaar and Michal Paluta jump clear at kilometre 4. Jonathan Lastra rejoins them, while Paluta punctures and drops back. The other four extend the lead to more than 12 minutes.

Sam Bennett can’t follow the pace in the peloton with 27 kilometres remaining and the attackers are caught 10 kilometres later.

Rémi Cavagna strikes inside the last 9 kilometres and Ivo Oliveira goes with him. After 4 kilometres the Frenchman continues alone before he is caught as well.

The last 2 kilometres run uphill on winding roads. KOM leader Guillaume Martin opens up a gap, but Primoz Roglic comes storming past in the last few hundred meters to take a commanding victory. He finishes bike lengths ahead of Felix Großschartner and Andrea Bagioli, while maillot rojo Richard Carapaz finishes in a group 3 seconds down.

The Slovene moves into the race lead due to the time bonus of 10 seconds.
