Vuelta a España concludes with a flat stage of 100.9 kilometres to Madrid. The race mostly takes place in the city centre as the the route takes in eleven 5.9 kilometres laps. So that’s rather similar to the Tour de France’s parade stage on the Champs-Élysées.

Recent winners in Madrid are Matteo Trentin (2017), Magnus Cort (2016), John Degenkolb (2015, 2012), Michael Matthews (2013) and Peter Sagan (2011).

The first bunch sprint of the 2018 Vuelta was won by Elia Viviani. In the 3rd stage he outpowered Giacomo Nizzolo and Peter Sagan. In the 6th stage Nacer Bouhanni outgunned Danny van Poppel and Elia Viviani, who bounced back with a clean win in the 10th stage ahead of Peter Sagan and Giacomo Nizzolo.
