Bauke Mollema and Hugh Carthy are the two-men breakaway squad. The two climbers reach a maximum advantage of over 2 minutes before it starts to go down on the second climb, Collet de Cal Ros. The duo is almost caught in the valley, but Carthy thinks otherwise. Still, he is reeled in on the early slopes of the Coll de Pradell.
Then it’s time for the big guns. Tadej Pogacar, João Almeida, Marc Soler, Mikel Landa, Egan Bernal, Antonio Tiberi, Lenny Martinez, Aleksandr Vlasov, Enric Mas, Einer Rubio, Iván Sosa and Chris Harper leave the others behind in the climb. The twelve put 1 minute into the first chase group.
A regroupment takes place with 33 kilometres remaining. Moments later the riders enter the Collado de San Isidere.
Pogacar attacks halfway up the climb and he reaches the summit 22 seconds ahead of the first chaser, Mikel Landa.
The Slovene extends his lead in the valley. Egan Bernal rejoins Mikel Landa and the two tackle the finish climb 1 minute behind the GC leader. Mas tries to bridge across to them, but he does not succeed. On the contrary, the gap widens in the ascent.
Pogacar solos to his third stage win of the week. Obviously, he leads the GC miles ahead of his rivals.
