Race report
Julen Amezqueta, Ander Okamika, Ibai Azurmendi and Ibon Ruiz attack from the gun. The breakaway riders open a 5 minutes gap, while Ruiz climbs into the KOM jersey on the first two ascents.
The four attackers crest the last climb, Aguilar Gaina, 1.38 minutes ahead of the peloton. The gap then bounces back to 2 minutes.
Ruiz jumps clear inside the last 13 kilometres. He opens a small gap to his fellow-attackers, but the peloton is the real danger. It comes rapidly closer in the last 5 kilometres and Ruiz is gobbled up with 500 metres remaining.
Julian Alaphilippe sprints to a commanding victory, finishing metres ahead of number two, Fabien Doubey.
The GC remains unchanged with Primoz Roglic in the leader’s jersey.
