Race report
Julien Bernard opens up a small gap after 10 kilometres before 23 riders join him. Nelson Oliveira, third on GC, is on board. Obviously, the break is caught, but De Gendt, Costiou and Garofoli push on. Zwiehoff, Juul-Jensen, Debons, Hermans, Cerny, Craddock and Bernard track them down and the ten open up a lead of over 3 minutes

The lead group is halved in the penultimate climb. Cerny, Craddock, De Gendt, Juul-Jensen and Zwiehoff reach the summit 2 minutes ahead of the peloton.

The attackers are caught with 12 kilometres left to climb. Yellow jersey Ayuso drops from the GC group 3.5 kilometres later.

Bardet accelerates inside the last 7 kilometres. Jorgensen, Yates, Caruso, Pinot, Dunbar, Carr, Uijtdebroeks and Poole follow the move.

Yates gradually distances the others with 4 kilometres to go. The gap never exceeds 15 seconds and Pinot goes after him in the last 2 kilometres. Yet, the Briton keeps the Frenchman at bay to take the win.

Jorgenson, second on GC, crosses the line in fifth, 21 seconds behind Yates. Which is enough for the stage winner to move into the GC lead.
