Race report
Powless accelerates in the run-up to the Côte de Saint-Hilaire. Some 30 riders go with him. Among them KOM leader Geschke, Van Aert, McNulty, Martínez, Bissegger, Storer, Gilbert, Teuns, Vlasov, Van Hooydonck, Grossschartner, Honoré, Izagirre (Gorka), Jorgenson, Caruso, Le Gac, Madouas, Eekhoff, Velasco, Bouet, Owsian, Wellens, Gallopin, Burgaudeau, Houle, Woods, Barthe, and Gougeard.

Burgaudeau pushes on after the summit and Gougeard and Jorgenson join him. Gougeard continues alone before the Col de l’Espinas, but he stops his efforts with 125 kilometre remaining.

The leaders enter the Port de Lers 8 minutes ahead of the peloton. Caruso heads out alone, while Storer and Woods rejoin him 5 kilometres before the summit. Geschke, Van Aert, McNulty and Jorgenson make it across in the last kilometre of the ascent.

Mas attacks from the peloton with two team mates. He puts 1 minute into the GC group, but it goes down fast when Pogacar strikes several times.

Teuns, Vlasov, Houle, Madouas, Burgaudeau and Gallopin regain contact with the lead group on descent, while Pogacar strikes again once he reaches the top of the Port de Lers. Vingegaard is glued to his wheel. The others rejoin them later.

Houle goes solo in the run-up to the Mur de Péguère. He reaches the summit 30 seconds ahead of Jorgenson and Woods.

Majka and Pogacar up the pace on the steepest part of Mur de Péguère. Kuss, Vingegaard and Quintana follow the move. Yates, Thomas and Gaudu come clawing back.

When Majka drops back with a broken chain Kuss speeds up with Vingegaard and Pogacar in his wheel. Quintana regains contact before the summit, Thomas and Gaudu on descent.

Jorgenson hits the deck in the descent, making it easier for Houle to solo to the best triumph in his career. The GC group finishes almost minutes later and Vingegaard stays in yellow.

While Yates, Pidcock, Mas and Bardet lose time and drop down on GC, Vlasov reenters the top 10.
