Race report

Tobias Nolde, Josef Dirnbauer and Emanuel Zangerle form the breakaway of the day. They carve out a maximum lead of 4 minutes and 30 seconds.

As the race enters the final 20 kilometres, the breakaway is down to one rider: Zangerle. For kilometres, he stays just a few seconds ahead of the peloton before his breakaway attempt comes to an end with 5 kilometres to go.

In the twisting final kilometres in Innsbruck, Thymen Arensman slips away and quickly opens up a sizeable gap. But as the chase gets underway and the roads widen, the two-time Tour stage winner becomes a perfect target. His attempt is caught within sight of the finish, after which Tommaso Dati sprints to the stage win. As a bonus, the young Italian takes the leader’s jersey.
