Race report
After around 10 kilometres, Jacob Söderqvist and Lorenzo Germani launch the breakaway, while Finn Fisher-Black, Jan Tratnik, Marco Schrettl, Asbjørn Hellemose, Gil Gelders and Robbe Dehondt track them down. The eight open a maximum lead of over 3 minutes, but by the time they reach the final climb the gap has come down to under 1 minute.
Fisher-Black is the last breakaway rider to be caught. There are still 7 kilometres to go at that point.
The race explodes when Florian Lipowitz attacks with 3.2 kilometres to go. Tadej Pogacar closes the gap, and then Jørgen Nordhagen gives it a go. Lipowitz uses the young Norwegian as a springboard and tries again. That brief flurry of attacks proves too much for everyone, except Pogacar, and the first two riders in the GC open up a gap.
The pair take turns putting each other under pressure, but without managing to shake one another. When Primoz Roglic surprisingly rejoins in the final kilometre, Pogacar is not impressed and he accelerates to drop his compatriot. But not Lipowitz. The resilient German is still on his wheel.
In the final 500 metres, the world champion puts in one last big effort to show who's boss. He takes his fourth stage win as well as the overall classification. Lipowitz finishes 3 seconds later in second place, with Roglic crossing the line a further 4 seconds down in third.
On the final podium, Pogacar is joined by Lipowitz and Lenny Martinez.
