Race report
Kenny Molly, Johan Jacobs, Oliver Knight, and Hartthijs de Vries initially form the breakaway before Jonas Rutsch and Jordan Labrosse turn it into a group of six after a chase of several dozen kilometers. They carve out a maximum lead of nearly 3 minutes.
Once the race hits the hilly and gravel section, the breakaway is caught.
Paul Lapeira and Thibaud Gruel attack with 35 kilometres to go. Not long after, pre-race favourite Arnaud De Lie is forced to change bikes due to a flat tire.
Christophe Laporte, Mathias Vacek, Albert Withen Philipsen, Stefan Bissegger, and Matteo Trentin close in on the two leaders on the final gravel section, reducing the gap to just 16 seconds. The peloton isn’t too far behind either.
After the final climb, the Côte de Rochecorbon, everything seems to be under control for the two escapees. Their lead is stable until they start watching each other in the final kilometer. The chasers catch them inside the final 700 metres and Trentin seizes the win in the sprint.
