Race report
Elmar Reinders, Julius van den Berg, Victor Vercouillie, and Hartthijs de Vries attack early in the race. Later, Giosuè Epis, Siebe Deweirdt, and Enzo Leijnse join them, forming a lead group of seven. They built a maximum advantage of over 7 minutes.
With 50 kilometres to go, the gap has dropped below 2 minutes as Joshua Tarling launches a counterattack.
A group featuring Matteo Jorgenson, Jasper Philipsen, Paul Magnier, Kaden Groves, and Tom Pidcock breaks away from the peloton in the approach to the Leberg.
With 30 kilometres to go, all groups on the road come back together, while defending champion Jan Tratnik suffers a puncture just before the Muur van Geraardsbergen. A group of around twenty riders reach the summit together.
Stefan Küng attacks inside the last 10 kilometres, and 2 kilometres later, the chasing group is reinforced by some thirty riders from behind.
The headwind works against him, and the Swiss rider is caught with just 1.1 kilometres to go. After that, Jasper Philipsen launches his sprint early – too early. Two riders come up strong beside him, with Søren Wærenskjold being the fastest. The 20-year-old Frenchman Paul Magnier finishes in second.
