Race report
Maestri and Tonelli are the first attackers before Maas, Balmer, Rivi, Abreha, Charrin, Riabushenko and Magli make it nine at the front. The leaders ride to a maximum lead of roughly 3 minutes before they are caught just before the Cipressa.
A peloton of some 50 riders hits the Poggio.
Wellens leads-out Pogacar early in the climb. With 6.6 kilometres to go Pogacar takes over. Ganna follows him like a shadow, while Van Aert and Van der Poel closes down the gap a little later.
Van der Poel powers away just before the top and enters the descent with a small lead. He widens the gap downhill and takes an impeccable victory on the Via Roma. Ganna outsprints Van Aert for second place.
