Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne 2025: Philipsen sprints to commanding victory

Race report
Despite several attacks, the peloton is still bunched after 40 kilometres. Then, Dries De Bondt, Huub Artz, Ward Vanhoof, Marius Mayrhofer, Tomáš Kopecky, Ceriel Desal, and Axandre Van Petegem make a move. In no time, they open up a 5-minute gap over the peloton.

Timo Kielich, Lewis Askey, and Jhonatan Narváez launch the chase with around 90 kilometres to go. By then, the attackers’ lead has come down to around 3 minutes.

Kielich drops from the chasing group due to a mechanical, while Tim Wellens accelerates in the peloton on the cobbles of Mont Saint Laurent, with Jonas Abrahamsen on his wheel. They rejoin Askey, who has been dropped.

A regroupment takes place inside the last 80 kilometres, as the attackers are still 2 minutes adrift.

Stefan Bissegger attacks in the lead-up to the Côte du Trieu. On the climb, Tim Wellens joins him, and together they close the gap to the leaders.

In the final 35 kilometres, De Bondt accelerates, with only Wellens, Desal, and Mayrhofer able to follow. The peloton trails by around half a minute at that moment.

The four are reeled in just after the first passage on the line, and then it’s up to the fast men.

Kaden Groves provides an excellent lead-out for Jasper Philipsen, who finishes it off in style. Olav Kooij has to settle for second place, while Hugo Hofstetter crosses the line in third.
