Tour of the Alps 2024: Solo triumph and leader's jersey for Juan Pedro López

Race report
Filippo Ganna opens up a 1 minute gap on the first climb of the day. The former ITT World Champion widens the gap to 4 minutes before he is caught in the first climb up the Weerberg.

Bardet attacks with 2.1 kilometres left to climb, but he doesn't get away. Giulio Pellizzari is next, while Juan Pedro López rejoins the young Italian. The two reach the summit 15 seconds ahead of the main group.

The gap is out to 50 seconds when they tackle the Weerberg for the second time. The duo loses 10 seconds on the climb.

López keeps on pushing on the Pillberg until he distances Pellizzari. The Spaniard extends his lead to solo to both the stage win and the leader's jersey.
