Race report

The breakaway — Yonna van Dam, Idoia Eraso, Lea Lin Teutenberg and Heidi Antikainen — buildd a maximum lead of over 5 minutes. By the time they reach the Kemmelberg, Eraso is the only rider left out front, and her effort comes to an end shortly afterwards, 55 kilometres from the finish.

Laura Molenaar then goes on the attack, with Georgia Baker bridging across to her. Their lead never extends beyond 20 seconds before they are caught just before the Baneberg.

A group of thirteen riders tackles the Kemmelberg for the final time: Karlijn Swinkels, Lorena Wiebes, Elisa Balsamo, Fleur Moors, Charlotte Kool, Millie Couzens, Shari Bossuyt, Elise Chabbey, Letizia Paternoster, Mackenzie Coupland, Daniek Hengeveld, Silvia Persico and Eleonora Camilla Gasparrini.

On the steepest section, Wiebes sets the pace, with Moors, Chabbey, Gasparrini and Swinkels on her wheel. The five crest the climb together and continue to pull further clear of the chasers. As they pass through Ypres, they hold a 40-second advantage.

Inside the final 4 kilometres, Gasparrini launches an attack, but Wiebes reels her back in in a 2 kilometres effort. Shortly afterwards, Swinkels tries a futile move, and then it comes down to the sprint.

Wiebes goes from the front with 300 metres to go. She has everything perfectly under control, but when she starts celebrating a little too early, Moors comes out of her wheel and… is just too late. The Dutch champion takes her third consecutive win in Wevelgem, while the 20-year-old Moors finishes second and Swinkels third.
