Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec 2019: Favourites
The Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec is tailor-made for hilly specialists with fast legs. Small wonder Michael Matthews and Peter Sagan won the last three editions. Cyclingstage.com brings you the pre-race favourites.
The trying circuit amounts to 12.6 kilometres and is raced 16 times. Each lap features 186 vertical metres, which amounts to almost 3,000 for the whole race. Virtually all vertical metres are crammed into the last 3.5 kilometres of the circuit and the final kilometre is a 4% slope.
A group sprint is the most likely scenario. Michael Matthews won the race last year ahead of Greg Van Avermaet and Jasper Stuyven, while Peter Sagan outgunned the field in 2017 and 2016. In 2017, he pipped Greg Van Avermaet and Michael Matthews and their sprint was so powerful that they opened up a gap with the rest of the field.
