Race report
Breakaway riders Frank van den Broek, Jørgen Nordhagen, Pascal Eenkhoorn, Victor Lafay, Andrew August, Artem Shmidt and Embret Svestad-Bårdseng build a lead of 2 minutes. That’s as far as it goes.
Halfway through the race, Mauro Schmid, Marius Mayrhofer, Laurence Pithie, Jan Tratnik, Gianni Vermeersch, Lewis Askey, Alex Baudin, Harry Sweeny, and Fredrik Dversnes set off in pursuit, forming a 16-man lead group.
With 100 kilometers to go, the breakaway’s lead is down to just thirty seconds, as UAE sets a strong pace in the peloton. Baudin is the final escapee to be caught, 70 kilometers from the line.
With roughly 40 kilometers remaining, Brandon McNulty launches an attack. Quinn Simmons follows, and Tadej Pogacar bridges up to the duo. Louis Barré soon makes it across as well.
Two laps from the finish, their advantage over the shattered peloton stands at 53 seconds. Soon after, Pogacar breaks clear on the Côte Camillien-Houde, leaving the other attackers behind. McNulty distances Simmons on the Côte de la Polytechnique, and then the world champion eases up to wait for his teammate, and they carry on as a duo.
Pogacar gifts the win to McNulty, and Simmons takes third place.
