Race report
Marco Frapporti attacks from the gun with Simon Pellaud, Thomas De Gendt and Josef Cerny. The four open up a gap of more than 2 minutes.
But then, after more than 10 kilometres, the peloton breaks. Bilbao, Pozzovivo, Majka, Fuglsang, Vanhoucke and Yates wind up in the wrong group.
The four attackers are brought back, while the Fuglsang group regains contact inside the last 100 kilometres. A third group, with Yates, Vanhoucke and Pozzovivo, tracks the first group down after a 50 kilometres chase.
Pellaud and Frapport go again, but the lead remains small and they stop their efforts.
Arnaud powers to his third stage win in Brindisi, besting Sagan and Matthews finishes a few metres further behind.
Almeida remains the leader in the general classification.
