Gent - Wevelgem 2025: The Route
Sunday, 30 March – Gent-Wevelgem covers 250.3 kilometres, featuring nine climbs and three gravel sectors. After potential echelons in De Moeren, the race heads into the crucial section – a 60-kilometre stretch packed with all the key obstacles – before flattening out for the final 34 kilometres.
The riders set off from the Grote Markt in Ypres before the official start is given near Zonnebeke. They initially head east, but that’s just a short detour, and they soon turn towards the coast, where crosswinds in the open plains of De Moeren could shake things up.
With just over 100 kilometres to go, the climbing kicks off on the Scherpenberg. Within 15 kilometres, the riders take on the Baneberg, Monteberg, and Kemmelberg, before hitting the Plugstreets – three unpaved sectors covering 5.2 kilometres in total, with the first two gently sloping.
Roughly 12 kilometres after the last gravel stretch, the climbing resumes with another Monteberg-Kemmelberg combo. Seven kilometres later, the final climbing sequence begins: Scherpenberg, Baneberg, and the last, brutal ascent of the Kemmelberg.
This final climb is tackled from its toughest side – 700 metres at a leg-burning 10.4% average, maxing out at a savage 21.1%. From the summit, it’s a flat 34.3-kilometre run to the line.
Shortly after the Kemmelberg, the riders turn left in Lindenhoek, heading towards Ypres. After passing through the picturesque centre, it’s a dead-straight, 20-kilometre drag to Wevelgem.
Last year, Mathieu van der Poel and Mads Pedersen were the strongest riders in the race. The two had dropped their breakaway companion Laurence Pithie on the final Kemmelberg ascent and worked together well. At the finish, Pedersen outsprinted Van der Poel to win Gent-Wevelgem for the second time in his career.
